What happened to… the sons of Sceva?
This is a part of a series:
- What happened to Zacchaeus?
- What happened to Moses?
- What happened to the Sons of Sceva?
- What happened to Peter?
- What happened to Jehu?
Here’s the bible verse about the sons of Sceva:
Then some of the traveling Jewish exorcists (men who adjure evil spirits) also undertook to call the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, I solemnly implore and charge you by the Jesus Whom Paul preaches!
Seven sons of a certain Jewish chief priest named Sceva were doing this. But [one] evil spirit retorted, Jesus I know, and Paul I know about, but who are you?
Then the man in whom the evil spirit dwelt leaped upon them, mastering two of them, and was so violent against them that they dashed out of that house [in fear], stripped naked and wounded.
- Acts 19:13-16
The sons of Sceva were using the name of Jesus Christ as if the name alone had power, but they were NOT believers in Jesus Christ the person. They merely developed faith in His name, they had faith in His ability, they believed the stories… but they didn’t have the faith in the PERSON.
The evil spirit did not cower at the name because it was said by people who didn’t believe in who Jesus is.
Faith in Jesus Christ (the person) must accompany the use of His name to produce power. The bible says that faith comes by hearing about Jesus. Hearing comes by the words of God.

Just linked to your post here on the sons of Sceva. I elaborated a little bit more on the topic here: http://jeffgoins.myadventures.org/?filename=sons-of-sceva. Would you be willing to link back to my article, too?
Keep up the work that you are doing, in letting others know about the lord and saver of this universe that they are apart of and are destroying day by day.
