How to get to heaven – the whole picture

The bible says that

Accept Jesus

If you ACCEPT Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, you go directly to heaven, pass go and collect $200! No judgement.

Jesus Christ is like Noah’s Ark. God waits until everyone is inside and He closes it behind us all after we are in. We then survive the waters of judgement which wash away those who don’t get through the judgement.

Reject Jesus

If you knowingly REJECT Jesus Christ you will go hell. No if’s and’s or butts.

For the rest there is judgement

To reject Jesus, you have to have been challenged to accept Him. Not everyone in this world is challenged obviously.

The bible says over and over that everyone (excluding Christians) will be judged according to their works.

And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done. – Rev 20:12-13

According to their works. Their deeds. We are not able to judge another person’s deeds and the bible says to not judge others, that it is God’s job.

HOW will people be judged? Are “deeds” the same as works? Do we earn it? No. In Romans Paul says that the judgement will be based around a person’s conscience, because everyone knows there IS a God and everyone has His law (to love) written on their heart. Did they follow their conscience to love.

When Gentiles who have not the [divine] Law do instinctively what the Law requires, they are a law to themselves, since they do not have the Law. They show that the essential requirements of the Law are written in their hearts and are operating there, with which their consciences (sense of right and wrong) also bear witness; and their [moral] decisions (their arguments of reason, their condemning or approving thoughts) will accuse or perhaps defend and excuse [them]. On that day when, as my Gospel proclaims, God by Jesus Christ will judge men in regard to the things which they conceal (their hidden thoughts). – Rom 2:14-16

It’s might be correct to say that as they are judged, the book is opened to establish the factual answer to the question: “Did you love?”

“Evil doers” go to hell. Evil doers are the bad people who did not love others but instead they were selfish and greedy and they deliberately hurt others. Evil doers WILL NOT be saved.

God is the one who judges deeds, not us.

The one command that is written on every conscience

Jesus said that some who claim He is Lord, but do not follow His command (to love!) will be denied entry into heaven. He said it, not me!

Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father Who is in heaven. Many will say to Me on that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name and driven out demons in Your name and done many mighty works in Your name? And then I will say to them openly (publicly), I never knew you; depart from Me, you who act wickedly [disregarding My commands]. – Matthew 7:21-23

The one command He gave is love. The Shema-V’ahavta in Judaism is to love God, the second most important principle in Judeism is to love others. The one thing that keeps the whole law is love. Of the three: faith hope and love… the greatest is: love.

Teacher, which kind of commandment is great and important (the principal kind) in the Law? [Some commandments are light–which are heavy?] And He replied to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind (intellect). This is the great (most important, principal) and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as [you do] yourself. – Matthew 22:36-39

Jesus is the only ‘sure thing’

Them’s the facts maam. It’s what the bible says, not me. The whole picture, not just one part of it. To my knowledge I don’t think I left anything out.

So… in summary, the only way to be 100% sure that you’re going to heaven is to have faith in Jesus and to keep His command to love. That makes you righteous and justified in God’s eyes. But for the rest there is a judgement based on their conscience in which God’s law (to love) is written.

It’s not for us to say who gets through the judgement. We need only tell as many people as possible that to have faith in Jesus and to follow Him (love God, love others) is an absolutely certain way to heaven.

  1. Hi Shem

I’m not into debates, I prefer to LIVE life. 🙂

So let me just quickly clarify Messianic (some say Christian) meaning of these words. Heaven is a place *after* this world and we can’t go there now.

The Kingdom of God is inside us because the Spirit of God which occassionally has come “onto” certain people in the past (like King David) that same Spirit is now available to come into EVERY Christian and remain with that person. It’s not for a select few any more.

We believe God has done this because God always said over and over to the Israelites that He intended to make them a “peculiar nation” and an object of envy, His special people… in that way to make the nations around them would be “jealous” so that those other nations would turn to Him too.

He said through the Israelites He would bless ALL the nations, He said to them several times that He intended to save ALL the nations.

That is why we believe that He has now made His Spirit available to ALL who believe in Him – it’s consistent with what Abraham was told and what the prophets said would happen.

I hope this helps. If it doesn’t, perhaps some of the other posts I have here will.

    All the best! Bless you,
    Mark.

Would you agree that there are people who beleive in Christ but are also evil-doers? What happens to them?
