Sometimes I lose sight of the BIGNESS God. I know that I have lost sight of Him when I feel desperate and responsible. That happens when I begin to think it’s all about me and nothing will happen if I don’t pray etc.
Then I end up feeling stressed and worried that perhaps I could somehow bungle everything and… and… and…
So let’s just take a quick peek at what He says about Himself and what He has to say for His Righteous followers.
LISTEN IN silence before Me – Is 41:1
Who has prepared and done this, calling forth and guiding the destinies of the generations [of the nations] from the beginning? I, the Lord–the first [existing before history began] and with the last [an ever-present, unchanging God]–I am He. – Is 41:4
Fear not [there is nothing to fear], for I am with you; do not look around you in terror and be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen and harden you to difficulties, yes, I will help you; yes, I will hold you up and retain you with My [victorious] right hand of rightness and justice. – Is 41:10
For I the Lord your God hold your right hand; I am the Lord, Who says to you, Fear not; I will help you! – Is 41:13
And He says
I will open rivers on the bare heights, and fountains in the midst of the valleys; I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water. I will plant in the wilderness the cedar, the acacia, the myrtle, and the wild olive; I will set the cypress in the desert, the plane [tree] and the pine [tree] together,
that men may see and know and consider and understand together that the hand of the Lord has done this, that the Holy One of Israel has created it. – Is 41:18-20
And He says
I am the Lord; that is My name! – Is 42:1
[Thus says the Lord] I have for a long time held My peace, I have been still and restrained Myself. Now I will cry out like a woman in travail, I will gasp and pant together. I will lay waste the mountains and hills and dry up all their herbage; I will turn the rivers into islands, and I will dry up the pools. And I will bring the blind by a way that they know not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known. I will make darkness into light before them and make uneven places into a plain. These things I have determined to do [for them]; and I will not leave them forsaken. – Is 42:14-16
This is no distant God, this is a picture of a Heavenly God who is actively involved in human history!
I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I give Egypt [to the Babylonians] for your ransom, Ethiopia and Seba [a province of Ethiopia] in exchange [for your release]. Because you are precious in My sight and honored, and because I love you, I will give men in return for you and peoples in exchange for your life. Fear not, for I am with you; I will bring your offspring from the east [where they are dispersed] and gather you from the west.
I will say to the north, Give up! and to the south, Keep not back. Bring My sons from afar and My daughters from the ends of the earth– Even everyone who is called by My name, whom I have created for My glory, whom I have formed, whom I have made. – Is 43:3-7
He created us (for His glory). He forms us. He makes us.
You are My witnesses, says the Lord, and My servant whom I have chosen, that you may know Me, believe Me and remain steadfast to Me, and understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after Me. I, even I, am the Lord, and besides Me there is no Savior. I have declared [the future] and have saved [the nation in times of danger], and I have shown [that I am God]–when there was no strange and alien god among you;
therefore you are My witnesses, says the Lord, that I am God. Yes, from the time of the first existence of day and from this day forth I am He; and there is no one who can deliver out of My hand. I will work, and who can hinder or reverse it? – Is 43:10-13
The point of humanity and of history and this world is clear – even if we can’t see it!
The people I formed for Myself, that they may set forth My praise [and they shall do it]. – Is 43:21
And He says of Himself
Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts: I am the First and I am the Last; besides Me there is no God. – IS 44:6
Who is like Me? Let him [stand and] proclaim it, declare it, and set [his proofs] in order before Me, since I made and established the people of antiquity. [Who has announced from of old] the things that are coming? Then let them declare yet future things. Fear not, nor be afraid [in the coming violent upheavals]; have I not told it to you from of old and declared it? And you are My witnesses! Is there a God besides Me? There is no [other] Rock; I know not any. – IS 44:7-8
I am the Lord, and no one else [is He]. I form the light and create darkness, I make peace [national well-being] and I create [physical] evil (calamity); I am the Lord, Who does all these things. – Is 45:6-7
I made the earth and created man upon it. I, with My hands, stretched out the heavens, and I commanded all their host. – Is 45:12
For those who love Him and are made Righteous by their faith in Him, He says
Even to your old age I am He, and even to hair white with age will I carry you. I have made, and I will bear; yes, I will carry and will save you.
To whom will you liken Me and make Me equal and compare Me, that we may be alike? – Is 46:4-5
And we can rest assured that He will do His purpose
I am God, and there is no one else; I am God, and there is none like Me, declaring the end and the result from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all My pleasure and purpose, calling a ravenous bird from the east–the man [Cyrus] who executes My counsel from a far country.
Yes, I have spoken, and I will bring it to pass; I have purposed it, and I will do it. – Is 46:9-11
Just in case we didn’t hear it, He says it again… it all hangs on Him (not us)
Listen to Me, O Jacob, and Israel, My called [ones]: I am He; I am the First, I also am the Last.
Yes, My hand has laid the foundation of the earth, and My right hand has spread out the heavens; when I call to them, they stand forth together [to execute My decrees]. – Is 48:12-13
Let us listen to His great ability
Is My hand shortened at all, that it cannot redeem? Or have I no power to deliver? Behold, at My rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a desert; their fish stink because there is no water, and they die of thirst. I clothe the heavens with [the] blackness [of murky storm clouds], and I make sackcloth [of mourning] their covering. – Is 50:2-3
We can rest assured that no matter what humans do, He will succeed with His intentions
So shall My word be that goes forth out of My mouth: it shall not return to Me void [without producing any effect, useless], but it shall accomplish that which I please and purpose, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it. – Is 55:11
When I read these statements about God, I know that no matter how hard humanity tries to do it’s own thing, no matter how hard we run away from Him and deny His existence and frustrate His intentions… His will will be done.
It’s not about me (although it involves me). It’s not about you (although it involves you). It’s by Him and for Him…
For it was in Him that all things were created, in heaven and on earth, things seen and things unseen, whether thrones, dominions, rulers, or authorities; all things were created and exist through Him [by His service, intervention] and in and for Him. – Col 1:16
Phew. What a relief! 🙂
