Intercession that works! (The “peelback” method)

This is for the intercessors out there. The ones who pray. The ones who desperately wish that things in the world were better. You know who you are… you’re the ones watching the news and taking a stand for the truth of Jesus in every theatre and scenario around the world.

You’re the ones praying for the Cuban and Haiti people in the path of a hurricane Gustav and Ivan etc. You’re the ones praying for the victims in the recent Democractic Republic of Congo civil war

You’re the ones praying to stop the potential warn between two nuclear armed countries – India and Pakistan.

So this is me sharing with you how I pray for these events. I don’t fast, I don’t cry out. And if you check out my previous post “Signs of life” you will see why I no longer randomly throw scriptures at the issue in the hope that one or two of them stick. LIFE. FREEDOM. RELEASE. – through the finished work of Jesus Christ.

Provided you understand that you are light to this world, you are salt, you are the one whose faith overcomes the evil in this world, then you are ready to read on…

For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. – 1John 5:4

So if you know that is your role – to bring light and to bring salt to this world – and you feel called to intercession, then read on to see what you think of my “peelback” method of intercession! 🙂

It’s very simple. Let’s take the India-Pakistan situation. Go grab a map. Point at the general area and lift your eyes to heaven. Focus on the cross, not on what you see in the newspapers. See with your eyes of faith, not with your natural eyes. Walk by faith, not by sight.

So what do you see? Do you see people at the brink of war? No. Close those eyes. Now what do you see? Do you see that Jesus Christ is the LAST ADAM and His life spread to everyone in that region?

Thus it is written, The first man Adam became a living being (an individual personality); the last Adam (Christ) became a life-giving Spirit [restoring the dead to life]. – 1 Cor 15:45

So simply thank Him for doing that. Keep your finger on that map and keep your eyes on Him. Thank Him for the truth that you can see in Him.

What else can you see in Him? Can you see that He paid for the sins of the whole world?

And He [that same Jesus Himself] is the propitiation (the atoning sacrifice) for our sins, and not for ours alone but also for [the sins of] the whole world. – 1 John 2:2

The next day John saw Jesus coming to him and said, Look! There is the Lamb of God, Who takes away the sin of the world!John 1:29

Amen, thank Him for paying for their sins, because He did! 🙂

You can do this for your kids and for the street you live in. If you are willing to brave the “pushback” (which usually makes me feel disorienting and a bit dizzy), if you are willing to go through that, then grab an archeology book and thank Him for paying for the sins done in a region of the world. Did I mention the pushback? Maybe leave this until you first intercede for your street.

Simply lift your eyes to Heaven, see the truth of what He did.

You cannot…

  • You cannot claim eternal salvation for everyone – that happens only when they come to Him (John 3:16)
  • You cannot claim everyone is one with Him, seated where He is, He is not IN them and they are not IN Him – that all comes only through faith/baptism INTO Him

But you can!…

  • You can claim that He took the sins of the whole world upon Himself – 1 John 2:2, John 1:29
  • You can claim He died in the place of everyone
  • You can claim that “While we were yet in weakness [powerless to help ourselves], at the fitting time Christ died for (in behalf of) the ungodly.” – Rom 5:6
  • You can claim that He was the LAST Adam and all of us are now in HIS image – as Adam and Eve were! – 1 Cor 15:45
  • You can claim that He is High Priest (Heb 8) of all – as promised by Ezekiel (Ez 37:16-17) – and He made one final sacrifice and no further sacrifice is required. Because He died for ALL sin and He died in the place of EVERYONE… “Now where there is absolute remission (forgiveness and cancellation of the penalty) of these [sins and lawbreaking], there is no longer any offering made to atone for sin.” – Heb 10:18
  • You can claim that we all are no longer under the law of sin and death, but are under the law of LIFE and the Holy Spirit
  • You can claim that His LIFE has spread to everyone
  • You can claim that if the criminal has been judged guilty on the cross and the full payment paid…  NO FURTHER legal action can be taken. Guilty! Paid! Done. Over. NO further sacrifice is required! – Heb 10:18
  • (this is known as “double jeopardy“)
  • … and far far more…

The key is to focus on Him and His completed work. The promises are received by faith… and you are to bring the salt and light to this world! It’s your job to overcome evil in this world. Are you doing your job? Even more importantly, are you doing your job THROUGH Him, THROUGH His completed work on the cross?

Why this works… you remove sin, you remove the power of death!

O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?
Now sin is the sting of death, and sin exercises its power [upon the soul] through [the abuse of] the Law.
But thanks be to God, Who gives us the victory [making us conquerors] through our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Cor 15:56

If you can really grasp this issue – that death has it’s grip because all have sinned – then you will be able to grasp why the cross is the central issue to releasing people from torment. He tooks the sins of the world. Receive that and stand on it constantly, daily, and the world will gradually become more and more free!

But why is it called “peelback”?

This is the most crucial issue. You are not peeling back a conflict. You are not peeling back sin. You are not peeling back anything in the here-and-now. DO NOT DO THAT!

You are peeling back the truth of the cross. You are looking up at Heaven and grabbing a corner and working from there. So… for example… every prayer of mine for this world begins with my finger pointing at something and with the words “Thank You Lord Jesus Christ for paying for the sins of the whole world and for dying in the place of everyone”. And then I work from there, adding in more and more scripture. Stating and restating the truth of His finished work. I speak and speak and see more and more of Him.

You need to be absolutely clear that it is your faith in JESUS CHRIST which overcomes this world. On 2 October 2008 this message was driven home to me.

… I felt as if God whispered to me “what is it that overcomes the world but your faith” which is a quote of 1 John 5:4 and then He seemed to say “and so the enemy attacks your faith and tries to make you doubt“ – Source

So remember what I said about pushback? You will begin to doubt. As an intercessor your faith must be IN CHRIST JESUS, in His finished work on the cross, that alone is what overcomes this world.

So in your prayers gradually “unpeel” the cross over the situation. Firguratively “grab” a corner of the cross, or grab a small “slice of truth”… and work from there. If pushback comes, then just go back to the corner and work from there again – always keeping your eyes on Him.

He was the last Adam, they are in His image, He died for them. In fact, He died for YOU while YOU were a sinner!

Why bring life to people who haven’t asked for it?

Because we hope they will go on to receive ETERNAL life. I think it’s obvious that if people are free of torment, then their hearts will soften. If their eyes are no longer blinded by sin, and if their ears are no longer deafened by sin, they can hear His call. If their minds no longer smeared by sin, they can perceive Him.

If we fulfill our role to overcome evil through our faith, then they will be free of sin… and then they are far far far more likely to come to Him and receive ETERNAL salvation, because there IS a judgement at the end and we want all people to be saved. With clean eyes, ears and minds they are all the more likely to be able to perceive and respond to Him.

Let me leave you with this. Take another look at John 3:16, 17 and 18. There are three distinct and related issue being described…

Verse 16 “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
Verse 17 God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.
Verse 18 “There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and only Son.

Let’s consider them in reverse order…

Verse 18 The whole world is already under judgement, because we are born without belief in Him. This is the central issue of why there is pain in this world – because it is separated from Him. Virtually every religion throughout the world has used sacrifices to the sun or moon or to ancestors or spirits to bring calm and blessing to themselves. Every religion knows there is trouble in this world and they try to deal with that trouble by striking deals with unseen forces. That trouble is called judgement and it’s not a future situation, John 3:18 makes it clear that the judgement is already here.

Verse 17 God sent His Son to bring LIFE to everyone. I emphasize LIFE because it’s different to ETERNAL life. This is life NOW and it’s available to everyone. Jesus said to His disciples that they can declare sins forgiven, or not. It’s mind boggling until you realise that He HAS paid the full penalty for ALL sins, but it needs to be RECEIVE by someone, so the judgement can end. That someone is you and me. It is our faith that overcomes this world.

Verse 16 And His hope is that the people – having received LIFE – they will then come to Him to receive ETERNAL life.

He came to bring life to this world in the hope that the people will then request eternal life! And as you point your finger at your local street, and lift your eyes up to see Him on the cross, or to see Him seated at the right hand of the Father WAITING for His enemies to be made a footstool under His feet… THEN you will see Him as He really is, you will see yourself as you really are and you will see your street and neighbours as they really are.

His work is worldwide and it is completed and it is waiting to be received. Be the light to the world. Be the salt to the world. Amen.

Would you like to intercede for peace in your country or in the world? All you need to do is get a map of the area you want to pray for and get this list of scriptures (or download the MS Word version) and speak each scripture out over the area you are praying for. It’s as easy as that.
