Setting Jesus Christ as the cornerstone and foundation

A very great promise was made in Isaiah, that a Messiah would come and He would be a cornerstone and a foundation stone…

Therefore thus says the Lord God, Behold, I am laying in Zion for a foundation a Stone, a tested Stone, a precious Cornerstone of sure foundation; he who believes (trusts in, relies on, and adheres to that Stone) will not be ashamed or give way or hasten away [in sudden panic]. – Isa 28:16

and as a result very great changes would occur…

I will make justice the measuring line and righteousness the plummet;

and hail will sweep away the refuge of lies, and waters will overwhelm the hiding place (the shelter).

And your covenant with death shall be annulled, and your agreement with Sheol (the place of the dead) shall not stand – Isaiah 28:17-18

Imagine that… the end of lies, the end of falsehood, all covenants with death anulled and all agreements with the place of the dead do not stand.

THAT is the promise that Jewish people expected when Jesus Christ walked the earth. But He wouldn’t let them crown Him a physical earthly king. He never once opposed the harsh Roman rulership over Israel.

And when He died on the cross, they couldn’t accept His Divinity. He died alone. His own disciples didn’t even believe.

What people had expected to happen, based on their subjective reading of the ancient scriptures, was not occuring, and they could not accept it.

Isaiah prophesied that this would happen

By oppression and judgment He was taken away;

and as for His generation, who among them considered that He was cut off out of the land of the living [stricken to His death]

for the transgression of my [Isaiah’s] people, to whom the stroke was due? – Isaiah 53:8

Did you see that phrase? “and as for His generation, who among them considered” and the answer to that was “none”, because no one in His generation realised that He was stricken for their transgressions.

Jesus Christ’s death as the Perfect Lamb of God taking the sins of the world upon Himself was in fulfillment of Abraham’s prophecy “God Himself will provide a lamb” (Gen 22:8)

And later Abraham called that place “The Lord will provide” (Gen 22:14). And the temple, the place of sacrifice, was afterwards built upon this same mount Moriah; and Calvary, where Christ was crucified, was nearby.

Jesus Christ is the foundation stone and the cornerstone for our faith. And as we have faith in Him, all of the evil in this world is washed away. He is not just “a” stone, but He is a “tested” stone… He was indeed tested.

What is a cornerstone?

The cornerstone (or foundation stone) concept is derived from the first stone set in the construction of a masonry foundation, important since all other stones will be set in reference to this stone, thus determining the position of the entire structure. – Wikipedia Cornerstone

What is the Foundation Stone?

The Foundation Stone (Hebrew: אבן השתייה, translit. Even haShetiya) or Rock (Arabic: translit. Sakhrah, Hebrew: translit.: Sela) is the name of the rock at the heart of the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem. It is the location of the Holy of Holies in the Temple, and is the holiest site in Judaism – Wikipedia Foundation Stone

Jesus Christ must be the foundation from which we build our understanding of the world, of the spiritual world, of our homes, families, countries, lives… and more. THEN we overcome the evil of this world.
