Checkmate! – vision

Recently I have been having more dreams and visions about the future. (I dont record them anywhere other than here on this blog.)

Two days ago I was praying and I had this intense experience. It was more than just a vision, I was IN the vision, I was a part of it, I could feel it all around me.

Then I wrote the post “A call to intercession by a watchman”. But in that (long) post I left out what I am going to share now in this post.

As I was praying I suddenly seemed to be playing a chess game. I grew up playing chess and I used to be very good at it.

I saw the chess pieces do three moves… one to the left, one to the right and then another to the right… CHECKMATE!

The final move actually took the opponents king OFF the board. This is unusual because the final move traps the opponents king, it doesnt TAKE the king.

But in this vision the opponents king – satan, the devil, lucifer – was actually taken OFF THE BOARD (Earth). And I heard… or sensed… or felt… the word CHECKMATE!

I remember I saw (and felt) the game over and over each time the same moves with the same ending… satans removal from the Earth.

“Checkmate” means victory, the end of the game. It felt absolutely final.

The passages which apply are… Is 14:3-27

3 At the time, when the LORD gives you rest from your suffering, turmoil, and the cruel bondage which they forced you to serve,

4 you will lift up this song of mockery against the king of Babylon: “How the oppressor has come to an end! How the attacker has ceased!

5 The LORD has broken the staff of the wicked, the scepter of rulers,

6 that struck down peoples in anger with unceasing blows, that oppressed nations in fury with relentless persecution.

7 The entire earth is at rest and peace; its inhabitants break into song.

8 Even the cypresses rejoice over you, as do the cedars of Lebanon, saying, ‘Now that you’ve been laid low, no woodcutter comes up against us.’

9 “The afterlife below is all astir to meet you when you arrive; it rouses up the spirits of the dead to greet you— everyone who used to be world leaders. It has raised up from their thrones all who used to be kings of the nations.

10 In answer, all of them will tell you, ‘You’ve also become as weak as we are! You have become just like us!

11 Your pomp has been brought down to Sheol, along with the noise of your harps. Maggots are spread out beneath you, and worms are your covering.”

The Fall of the Day Star

12 “How you have fallen from heaven, Day Star, son of the Dawn! How you have been thrown down to earth, you who laid low the nation!

13 You said in your heart, ‘I’ll ascend to heaven, above the stars of God. I’ll erect my throne; I’ll sit on the Mount of Assembly in the far reaches of the north;

14 I’ll ascend above the tops of the clouds; I’ll make myself like the Most High.’

15 But you are brought down to join the dead, to the far reaches of the Pit.

16 “Those who see you will stare at you. They will wonder about you: ‘Is this the man who made the earth tremble, who made kingdoms quake,

17 who made the world like a desert, who destroyed its cities, who would not open the jails for his prisoners?’

18 All the kings of the nations lie in state, each in his own tomb.

19 But you are cast away from your grave, like a repulsive branch, your clothing is the slain, those pierced by the sword; those who go down to the Pit. Like a dead body trampled underfoot,

20 you will not be united with them in burial, for you have destroyed your land, you have slain your people. People will never mention the descendants of those who practice evil again!

21 Prepare a massacre for his sons because of the guilt of their forefathers! They are not to rise and inherit the earth, and cover the surface of the world with cities.”

22 “I will rise up against them,” declares the LORD of the Heavenly Armies, “and I will eliminate from Babylon her name and survivors, her offspring and descendants,” declares the LORD.

23 “And I’m going to make it a possession of the hedgehog—pools of water—and I’ll sweep with the broom of destruction,” declares the LORD of the Heavenly Armies.

24 The LORD of the Heavenly Armies has sworn: “Surely as I have planned, that’s what she will become; and just as I have determined, so will it remain—

25 to crush the Assyrian in my land, and on my mountains I will trample him down. His yoke will turn away from you, and his burden from your shoulders.”

26 “This is what I’ve planned for the whole earth, and this is the hand that is stretched out over all the nations.

27 For the LORD of the Heavenly Armies has planned, and who can thwart him? His hand is stretched out, and who can turn it back?” – Is 14:3-27

It is clear to me that there is going to be an Almighty (pun intended) spiritual war waged by the Lord of Hosts on satan. and the result will be satan taken captive in sheol. See Rev 20:1-3…

And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season. – Rev 20:1-3

A few more thoughts on those verses…

v19 is extremely badly translated or interpretted.

It should convey the throwing aside… it should say something like “you are cast out… like a green shoot is tossed out of a grave… like a shirt of a dead person who has been killed by a sword thrust through him… like stones out of a water well… like a dead body which has been trampled underfoot.”

The KJV tranalates v19 better…

19 But thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch, and as the raiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a carcase trodden under feet.

… except that “go down to the stones of the pit” doesnt make any sense… it should be saying he is cast out “like stones cast out of a well”.

And it is not satan who is cast out of his grave, no, it should say he is cast out the Earth “like an abominable branch is cast out of a grave”… meaning… how someone cleans a grave by taking all the green shoots and pulling them up and throwing them away from the piece of land being cleared.

The imagery is one of disdain, when something is cast out… without a thought, or because it is useless… for example like a shirt soaked in blood with holes where the person was stabbed. Its a useless shirt so it is thrown away without a second thought.

Another poor translation or interpretation is v6.

The point of that verse is to say something like this: “You who oppressed the earth… you are now the one who is persecuted (in sheol, the pit) and no one oppresses the earth any more.”

The KJV is better, but still not very clear, so I will highlight it to show the meaning…

6 He who smote the people in wrath with a continual stroke, he that ruled the nations in anger, is persecuted, and none hindereth.

Final observation

According to these passages, there is a misconception that satan will rule when he is in sheol.

These verses clarify that…
1. he will be just as weak as everyone else there (v10)
2. they will persecute him (v6)
3. that is probably why he will dwell in the far reaches (the edges, sides) of the pit (see v15).
