Living Waters

These two posts go together

Be careful… this post could change your life. In a good way  🙂

Do you remember the part where Jesus was talking to the woman at the well? He said…

whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” – John 4:14

Clearly He has water to give to anyone who asks for it. How about you? Do you want the living water that He offers?

The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.” –  – John 4:15

Why not take a moment right now to pray and ask Him to give you those living waters.

For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; ‘he will lead them to springs of living water.’ ‘And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.'” – Rev 7:17

There it is again… Jesus Christ leads us to the springs of living waters… and the effect will be profound… somehow through that living water God Himself wipes away our tears…

And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment. – Rev 21:6

And again, the same promise… to give for free… if we will just take a moment to ask.

Many years ago when I was deep in suffering in Australia I saw a vision of God Himself coming up to me as I sat on the floor crying in emotional pain and He looked at me and He wiped away the tears from my eyes. I literally saw Him reach His hand towards me and wipe my cheek. In the room my tears did not stop, but that vision came to pass over time as He led me.

So where did Jesus lead that woman to? He promised something and she asked for it… surely He gave it to her?

Yes. There was one more very important thing that He said to her…

The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called Christ) “is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.” Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you—I am he.” – John 4:25-26

I propose to you that Jesus Christ IS the Living Waters. He Himself is the way that God wipes away our tears. He is the way to be reconciled to God. He is the way to enter into the Covenant of Peace (or completeness).

Do you see?  He promised to give her the waters… and then if you read the last few words exchanged between them, this is the only thing of substance that He gave her… the knowledge that He IS the Messiah. The gift of THAT knowledge is the way to the Living Waters.

On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. – John 7:37

Drinking from Jesus Christ will satisfy your thirst. He is the Living Waters.

So it is no surprise to me that Jesus Christ’s words about providing water and being the way are fulfillment of the Covenant of Peace in Is 53-55

Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food. – Isaiah 55:1-2

I propose to you that Jesus Christ is the WAY into that Covenant of Peace. When we enter into that covenant with God – through Jesus Christ – our tear are wiped away and shalom or completeness covers our life.
