God’s warm love

I’ve been feeling this “warmth” for a while now. I didn’t know what it is, so I’ve kind ignored it. It feels so good, but I’ve never seen it in the bible, so I don’t know what to do about it.

The first time I felt it was in a house where we (a group of committed Christians) were just having fun and chatting and loving one another. Then I felt it in the room I was in as we were praying to Jesus – I was sure it was Him, I wondered if healing was available to us in the room.

But I’m a stickler for seeing stuff in the bible before believing it. There are way too many flaky Christians – I don’t want to be one of them – the truth is MORE than enough for me.

Then I felt the warmth on my left arm, then across my shoulders, then inside my chest and now I pretty much feel it often. Right now I feel it as I type this. Spending time jouranlling to God last night I felt it.

But what is it and where is it in the bible? Then today (my birthday) I found this:

“Then, when that happens, we are able to hold our heads high no matter what happens and know that all is well, for we know how dearly God loves us, and we feel this warm love everywhere within us because God has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with His love.” – Romans 5:5, TLB

It brings tears to my eyes to think I may finally be feeling God’s love in my life.

UPDATE: The only other time I can remember feeling this warmth in my life was when I was a young boy lying on my grand-mother’s lap. I guess it’s what love feels like? A warmth inside? How incredibly sad that only on my 38th birthday am I realizing what love fees like. But on the UPside, what a wonderful birthday present from God that I’m physically sweating from feeling His love today.

If you know of a bible verse in another version which can support these experiences I’m having, please let me know.

  1. its a baptism of fire that john spoke of regarding jesus (which he received from god). there are many versus about it and the “light.” That’s what it feels like inside, like there is a light of energy that is amazing beyond words, something you can never create on your own. I experience it in my sleep, throughout the day, and i pray i will be fully washed by gods love someday and feel its presence 24/7….thats my biggest wish to god. god is using us in a specific way, im sure with gods presence in us, you have also received insight on your purpose in life and visions. at some point we will be called for something special, until then, we can only rely on our personal relationship and messages from god for wisdom/understanding. This experience has taken me from the “impossible” thinking to “possible.” But it has also been the most challenging seeing that most people who “believe” haven’t experienced it (been chosen) and lack faith in the presence/energy of god or for me, i began my “refining like gold” process that has been super hard because this whole thing is leading me to gods promise, something not manifested now but testing continuously comes my way so that i may fully receive “his love.” You have received the baptism of fire/spirit. You have within you the “lamp” of “light.” Its a presence most search their whole life for and never receive….its truly a blessing but its also not the easiest to understand or surrender to without that understanding.

    may god bless you all and i send my love in light to each

    • Hi Nikki

      I didnt reply until now because I was processing what you wrote. I have never before read something that so matched my experiences like that! Im still looking for the inner warmth of His love though. Thank you for sharing. God bless you! Mark.

  2. i want to feel god’s love for me…i love God since i was 6 years old….why can you feel and i can not? It saddens me. i need Him so much. Maybe too much.

    Hi gerri.

    I am 38 years old. I have known God for my whole life. My family was a very lonely place and I didn’t feel much love for most of my life. Does this sound familiar to you?

    Well, God has walked with me (even though I didn’t see it and hardly felt it) and I healed and recovered and healed more… until at the age of 37 my emotions recovered enough to begin feeling again. Then I was able to feel His warm love AND the warmth that comes from friendship and community.

    Now I feel warm almost all of the time. God is good, you know He is with you since you were 6. He will stay with you and help you recover and heal. If you would like to read more about how to heal, please read this post that I wrote: What to do when you’re feeling empty inside

    God is with you gerri – even if you don’t feel Him, He *is* there. How do I know? Because I couldn’t feel Him, but He stayed with me anyway. Even if we are not able, He is still able. Please focus on healing and recovering and you will start feeling and then you will feel Him again. I did. You will too. đŸ™‚

    I feel God showed me this psalm 73 last night, so I can share it with you today:
    22 I was senseless and ignorant;
    I was a brute beast before you.
    23 Yet I am always with you;
    you hold me by my right hand.
    24 You guide me with your counsel,
    and afterward you will take me into glory.
    25 Whom have I in heaven but you?
    And earth has nothing I desire besides you.
    26 My flesh and my heart may fail,
    but God is the strength of my heart
    and my portion forever.
    Ps 73:22-26

    God bless you,
    Mark.

  5. Hi Mark,

    Praise God that we can not only know that He loves us but we can feel His love! This is a great post! It is important to test our feelings and emotions against scripture. I have experienced this warmth of the Holy Spirit you are talking about – especially when I am reading His word or praying fervently. My heart starts to pound faster and it is like a quickening of the Spirit.

    The KJV has many verses with the word “quicken” and it is interesting to see how the new versions translate that word to mean stimulate, incite, revive and give new life. Some verses seems to refer to the initial act of salvation while others seem to refer to an ongoing work by the Holy Spirit in our hearts.

    I was thinking of this verse also: Ephesians 5:18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery; but ever be filled and stimulated with the [Holy] Spirit. (AMP). It’s not really talking about ‘warmth’ but certainly could be attributed to a feeling.

    Here is an interesting sermon on Romans 5:5 by John Piper. He lists a few other scripture references to consider.
